I remember it as Luigi’s. It was a greasy spoon diner. This was circa 1970-75.

True class. Across the street from “Nice and ice” “Nice n ice "used to be a milk store.Remember that? Cunningham’s heating was next to the milk store.
You are not an "oldtimer"if you don’t remember "Herbies”!
So sad.To bad.

Duper,
I don’t remember Herbie’s. Where was it it located?

I remember the Friday nights when we would go to the Duper.Friday was the changing of the movies for the week.Friday night was always special. We would have the best hamburger in all of Dupage County.A hamburger and a shake at “Herbies”, where the sauce really was the boss. Then a double feature at the Duper. Those were really great Friday nights…..We can “bring back the stars "at the Duper. But we can’t bring back "Herbies”.

Dupage dude.I just read your post.I just had to log on and say that you are 100 percent correct. It is time to stop talking and start walking.

“Toni”… Your coments were…“Dude, we decided not to do the petitions back then. We are working very hard on other solutions, including creating a development that should make everyone happy. What we are trying to do here is find out what will make everyone happy. That is the purpose of the Historical Commision’s 6 mo review. ” What your Board seems to fail to realize is that there are a handful of people out there who’s sole purpose in life seems to be to turn the DuPage Theatre into an empty lot! You can propose a building made of choclate donuts that all can eat from and they’ll suddenly all become diabetic, or complain about the high price of chocolate! I can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when a high-rise office building is allowed to be built there “for the good of the Downtown”. I am trying to get you people to realize that talking to them is a WORTHLESS MOVE. Talk to Defeno, claim to be making progress, then look what he posts on the anti-theatre board. You talk to Sebby/Challenger all day on here, look where that’s gotten you. All this TALKING, when you should all be WALKING…GETTING SIGNATURES FOR A REFERENDUM, or at the very least A PETITION to show once and for all there IS SUPPORT for the project. Otherwise, quit wasting time and building up people’s hopes of a restored theatre in Lombard!
Another question, if someone on here has e-mails that prove a poster has been sending “disgusting” things, why not post them for all to see? Change/delete some of the wording if you would like, but EITHER POST THEM ON HERE FOR ALL TO SEE OR STOP TALKIING ABOUT THEM.
If the Friends finally do decide to do a petition drive, let me know, I'l throw on my walking shoes and get going!!!
And Steve, why complain about someone on here all day—aren’t you doing the same thing? What if they are unable to leave the house, injured, handicaped or babysitting?
Finally, I think the point that was attempted to be made on the anti-theatre web site, which was lost on the simple minds was this. Yes, it is great that the Sox won, but remember that the building they played in was built with TAX DOLLARS. Some on here claim to be “watchdogs” but then the dog goes to sleep when an example is shown of how TAX DOLLARS work for the good. If the Sox, as a private corporation, which they are, had to build that park themselves, they would have no money to pat rheir players. Think about that…

DuperJim,
If you are sooooo concerned about Lombard’s Historical District, why did you support a plan to put an 86 unit condominium that violated height and setback codes in the very heart of it???? Doesn’t sound like a very consistent message you people send.

DuperJim, I have another question for you. What have you succeeded in? From what I can see you:
A)Failed to get the necessary support for the theatre (Grade F)
B)Lost what should have been a slam dunk election to Mr. Sebby (Grade F)
c)Failed to get enough petitions signed this summer to counter the demolition resolution (Grade F)
d)The majority of theatre supporters want nothing to do with you thus rendering you a useless man without a cause (Grade F)

Just what accomplishments have you made in life Jim? (Other than embarassing yourself and family)

Challenger. I have no vendetta against any trustee.
Who is a bitter old man?Not me.
The vendetta seems to be between you and your opponent.Remembe that one?
As far as I am concerned I could care less.My only agenda is saving and preserving the Dupage Theatre.
Challenger.I will make you a deal.If you will go ahead and “save the day” for the ‘friends" then I will stop posting. Is it a deal?
I will log off now and watch for your answer.

Toni, why don’t you say anything about dupers mindless rantings? He is logged on this page all day and just waits for somebody to post and immediately follows up that post with some nonsense rambling. He always has to get the last word in.

He is a old bitter man with nothing better to do. His agenda is NOT one of preservation, but political. His agenda is a vendetta against one Trustee.

Toni.Have the demolition trustees changed their minds about demolishing the theatre?
Have they seen the “error” of their votes?

No point in talking here anymore. You guys ruin any chance of dialog. Again, those that want to work together, contact Ms. Dynako.

True class.Just"who" have I bashed?
Difino’s words speak “volumes”.
Have you studied up on TIF?
Btw.The “friends” volunteer their “time”, “money”,and “labor” into their efforts to save and preserve one of the few remaining historical buildings that is in the very heart of Lombard’s historical district.

TrueClass
TrueClass on November 1, 2005 at 10:36 am

Yes Jim, I have brushed up on TIF. Thanks to Concerned Taxpayer for informing me that PROPERTY TAXES from the district are used, not sales taxes. Either way, a TAXPAYER funded plan was defeated.

What does the transportation and safety committee have to do with the theatre? Are all of the people that volunteer their time to serve on these committees in a conspiracy to demolish?

If Bob said “I represent the silent majority,” doesn’t that mean he is representative of the silent majority? Show me where he states “I am the leader.” You can’t, because he never said it.

Stop bashing people for doing what they feel is right. This is a democracy we live in. Your side lost the campaign to restore the theatre with tax dollars. That’s the reality of it. Learn to accept it.

True class blabbers to “Jim”. “ Mr. Difino never claimed himself our leader” This is a direct quote from the September 1,2005 village board meeting.
“Robert Difino thanked the board for the opportunity to speak. He said that "he” represents the silent majority which does not have an army of speakers, yet “he” said that his side represents the majority of residents.“ [lol] Sure all 23.[lol]
Doesn’t that sound like Difino is your soooo called ” self proclaimed leader?“
Spare us all from your nonesense.
Is it jmi, but didn’t trustee Steven D.Sebby[author of the demolision resolution] offer up Difino’s name to be on the "transportation and safety committee”? humm.
What does that say about “self proclaimed”?

Again true class.Duper is not “Jim"
Do you not read?
Have you brushed up on TIF yet?
?

One more thing Duper Jim,
You have requested on several occasions for me to produce the evidence of your fraudulent and harassing e-mails to Ms. Warnock. That is the only reason why we wanted to meet with you. You certainly are welcome to come to my house to review them.

Duper Jim,
Why is it you feel Mr. Difino isn’t entitled to express his opinion. Doesn’t he have the right to voice his opinions and ideas? He, like the rest of us on Charlotte Street have more to lose than anyone where this issue is concerned. It’s so typical of you to troll into another website and cut and paste his comments for the purpose of bringing it to this site to attack him. The hypocrisy never ends from you people. People from the pro-restoration side have asked people against the theatre plan not to post on this site. When Mr. Difino complies with the request, your self-proclaimed preservationist Jim DeVitt cut and pastes his comments from another site on to this one and attacks him.

To Jim,
Mr. Difino never proclaimed himself our leader. You did that. You have no idea what it takes to be a leader. Bob stuck his neck out for people who can’t protect themselves, many of them senior citizens. That’s leadership Jim. For you to attack him here is disgraceful.

So much for “challenger” coming aboard to “save the day”!
His hate for the “friends” still prevails.
Any doubt about his “true” identity?
