During the Depression, the Bijou stopped showing movies as back taxes hadn’t been paid. But unlike other theatre in similar situations often locked up, the Bijou continued as a place of entertainment of civic duties being used for dances, city hall meetings, and a voting polling place. A new operator reopened the theatre in June of 1936.
