No sooner had Allan Way taken over the Butterfly, than he was having to fend off threats and complains from a wide range of local authorities. In 1925 builders S.W. & R.C. Potter submitted plans for a 186 seat gallery above the 633 seat Stalls. Three years later the owner submitted plans for a major restructuring, creating the Merrylands Kinema featuring a 43’ x 106’2’’ auditorium with a 734 seat Stalls and a 362 seat Gallery giving a capacity of 1100. By 1950 the cinema was licensed for 634 Stalls 346 Circle totaling 980.
