Photograph of auditorium taken for opening day 2nd August 1935. The design and its execution by Eugene Mollo is intended to guide all eyes forward to the screen. An idea that was seen several years later at the Odeon Muswell Hill. Mollo’s intention was to clear all debris from view, which came to a head several years later in an article he wrote in a cinema trade paper 1937. Mollo also designed fascinating interior carpets for his cinema’s, all of which have a named design, here the carpet was ‘Cubic’.
