Photograph of hidden splay walls grilles, these are above the false ceiling now in place. These Art Deco designed grilles were manufactured by Strenic Construction Company, who were based in Corsham Wiltshire during the 1930’s and very popular, unlike fibrous plaster they were made from crushed light Corsham stone then mixed with with a mortar and poured into wooden moulds to set. The Radion was built by Leightons (Constuction) Ltd of Potters Bar, who specialised in cinema building during the 1930’s and used Strenic stone for many of their cinemas both interior and exterior. Architect King used Leightons to build all of his cinemas, also they built seven for Odeon and other independents such as the Adelphi Slough, where 2,000 cubic feet of Strenic stone was used on the façade alone. Similar casting techniques of various mediums at this time, Newby Trent produced Trentcrete and Francis Leon Philie, Plastocrete.
