July 1972

In a good example of tone deaf booking for this downtown location the New Yorkers in the Walter Reade booking office chose this for our big summer attraction for 1972. The Coronet, located across the street did record breaking business all summer with Come Back Charleston Blue, while the Rialto had Slaughter and Shafts Big Score, and Loews Grand had Buck and the Preacher, Legend of N***** Charlie, and Blacula. This good movie, which did not do well anywhere but especially not here, played a month to mostly empty houses except for some spillover from the Coronet when the Reade owned feature Slaves was added.

The next summer we were running Super Fly TNT and Chinese Connection.
