Originally called the Majestic, then later the Family, the Front St theater closed in the late 1950’s and reopened in 1960 as the Phillips Theater, a part of the E.M.Loews chain. When the Phillis reopened for business, the seating capacity was reduced from 1000 to 450 by removing the first 12 rows of seats and the complete balcony.
