MAJOR HIC-CUP FOR MODERN TALKIE APPARATUS.

As reported in the “West Australian” (Perth, WA) – Monday 24 March 1930, page 8 – Installation at Capitol Theatre. Claimed to have cost £12,000, when it was installed only nine months ago. The Photophone sound-reproducing apparatus at the Capitol Theatre has been dismantled – broken up with a sledge hammer and sold as junk for £3. its place being taken by what is said to be the most up to-date talkie equipment in Australia. The change was effected by Mr G.H. Walters, assistant chief engineer for the Photophone organisation of the Radio Corporation of America, who left Perth on His return to Sydney on Saturday night.

It was found that the sound was not evenly distributed to all parts of the theatre. In the front stalls the noise was nearly deafening. while at the back of the dress circle dialogue frequently was top faint to be audible* – Contributed by Greg Lynch –
