The Hallandale Drive-In, like many drive-ins built prior to the early 1950s, was built to the Full Screen format. As studios began releasing more films in the Widescreen formats of Cinemascope and VistaVision, new Drive-Ins were built to handle these formats and older Drive-Ins were upgraded to the widescreen format.
In the Summer of 1954 the Hallandale Drive-In went thru such an upgrade, and my father, Ken Ashworth, was able to capture the progress of the renovation.
