1/17/1967 the arson fire destroyed the fire house that once held movies on the second floor. The building appeared to be three stories, but the old opera house on the upper level was two stories high with a balcony. The building was built shortly after the business section of Whitney Point was burned down in 1897. Due to fire code issues,the movies were not shown after 1961. The village was not willing to pay the expense to upgrade to code and the movie business was slow at the end.
