The Shelby Theater was opened on August 19, 1926. It was located on what was then known as West Side Square. In 1941 it was renamed Rio Theater. It has a wonderful exterior and showed first-run films. It was closed by 2024.

I would like to correct this information on The Rio Theatre being closed. I’m not sure who gave you this information but it is incorrect and should not have been posted without verification. We are the owners of the Rio Theatre in Center, Tx. and it has never been closed since 1926. It is one of the oldest single screen continuous running theatres in the state of Texas. We take great pride in that fact and strive to be always friendly, maintain cleanliness and keep prices down for our customers. We feel very fortunate to have a great customer base that support us so that we can remain open after all these years. We would love to have everyone stop in if you are in the area and watch a movie with us at one of the best “picture shows” in the area. For movie information you may call our “movie info line” 936-598-3864 and we hope to see you soon “at the movies”.
This theatre has closed or does a great job at hiding its showtimes.
