Listed in the Film Daily Yearbook's 1941 and 1943 editions, it has a seating capacity of 500.

From 1949-1955 it is listed as being a Negro theatre, seating given in 1950 is 534.

Here is a 1950 view of the Loewen Hotel & Theatre after name changed to Oxford. By the time this photo was snapped the theatre (photo) right had obviously closed -

Don't think it was always a black theater. The book America Goes to the Movies has a picture of the Mecca showing The Story of Alexander Graham Bell starring Don Ameche. A 1939 film.
