The Berkeley Cinema Four opened in 1976 as a Twin, and the first multi-screen theatre in Goldsboro. Sometime in the early-1980's, Stewart and Everett Theatres sold their chain to Carmike, and the Berkeley along with it. It was also around this same time that the original 300 seat auditoriums were flanked by two 150 seat auditoriums on either side.

In the late-1990's, all the seating was replaced with new cupholder seating, and DTS was added to two of the now four screens. The Berkeley Cinema Four was running strong, outperforming most megaplexes in terms of sales, that is until Premiere Theatres built a twelve-screen on the other side of town. It was newer and flashier, so the people flocked there, and the Berkeley became second run.

The staff were fighting to keep this theatre open, and were slowly winning the war against the megaplexes. Sadly, the Berkley Cinema Four was closed by Carmike Cinemas in November 2007.

The fact that the address has to be altered shows how inaccurate Google is.
