This is a postcard view of Main Street. The Albert Theater is on the left.

There is a reference in NY Times archives to a fire at the Albert on November 23, 1907 that caused damage of $100,000.

I have the full NY Times article but I don't know if its the same Albert Theater as this one. Anyone know how old the Albert Theater is?

I only saw the preview. Here is a shot of an old sign on the side of the Albert:

A Wurlitzer theater organ opus 1216 style "H" special was installed in the Albert Theater on 11/4/1925. Status: sold.

Ken....The site that you linked to gives the following information:

In its heyday the Albert Theater was a pivotal part of the city's cultural center. This building has been used for a variety of businesses over the years but has been closed since the 1970's. In the past few years a local businessman has purchased the building and is refurbishing it. The front facade is completed and work inside is coming along.

I wonder what its going to be used for.

Also, the Times article from November of 1907 states that the Albert Theater was a four story building. The postcard looks more like a three story building.

Scroll down to Nov. 23, 1907, it looks like that theater building collapsed after the fire, so probably a different building:

Great find. Scroll down further to November 15, 1910.

New Albert Theater building. Fire struck again and gutted interior of building.

I assume that the current building was the second Albert Theater that was built.

I'll bet their premiums went up.

In the 1897-98 edition of the Julius Cahn Official Theatrical Guide, there are 2 theatres listed for Berlin NH, the Clement Opera House with 1200 seats and the Whitney Opera House with 800 seats. Unfortunately, there are no street addresses listed in this guide. I believe that Berlin was a busy papermill and forest products town.

My web site has postcard pictures of the second Albert Theatre, as well as other theatres in Berlin, NH.

The Wurlitzer Organ is still in the city, housed at the Berlin Middle School.
