This photo of the elegant auditorium was copied from a 1939 trade journal, which suggests that the Strand was either a newly built theatre or an older one that had just been modernized. Does anyone know?

The Strand Theatre in Berlin opened in 1937.

I have two listings for the Strand: One is in Dover, NH on Third Street, old but still in operation, and one is in Berlin, NH now a bowling alley. Does anyone have any information on the theater in Dover?

Don’t you mean that you have listings for two theatres called Strand? The one in Dover had 991 seats, according to the 1945 Film Daily Year Book. At the time, it was being operated by one of the Paramount circuits.

As of 1942, the Strand in Berlin was part of the Maine and New Hampshire Theatres Company circuit of Boston.
