Cine Ideal opened May 1916 as the first movie palace in downtown Madrid.
Yelmo Cines chain took over the site in 1990, reopening 1991 after building eight screens, adding a ninth in 1996. Another complete overhaul and restoration of the original, stained-glass window adorned facade followed in 2002.
The Yelmo Cineplex Ideal’s nine auditoriums, ranging from 83 to 384 seats for a total of 1,725 seats, are located on three levels including one auditorium underground. The busy movie theater specializes in original-language versions and arthouse films. It was closed for refurbishment on April 17, 2017 and re-opened in October 2017.

Was there tonight to see ‘A Single Man’.
First weekend of its release and just 5 at the midnight show.
The place really needs a good clean and refurbishment.
It’s closing this coming Monday, April 17th 2017, for refurbishment. It’s supposed to reopen in October of this year.
It’s worth noting Loews Cineplex Entertainment ran it until 2004. It was the worlds biggest cinema exhibitor.
