The 5th Avenue Cinema is one of the last remaining college movie houses in the country. After operating as part of the Moyer Theaters chain for many years, it became the site of screenings put on by the Portland State University Film Committee in 1988.

Today, it is still student run, serves free popcorn, and shows a great mix of films- everything from "The Third Man" to a Godard retrospective to "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls". The students select all the films, which are presented in 35mm.
