The Second Universalist Church in Lowell on Shattuck Street at the corner of Market Street, was built in 1837. After the parish moved out the building served other uses from theatre to dance hall. It was The Savoy Theatre from 1896 then the Casino Theatre from 1898 to 1899. Renamed the Savoy Theatre again until 1902, then the Casto Theatre from 1903 to 1905, Hathaway’s Theatre from 1906 to 1912 and finally the Playhouse Theatre from 1913 to 1918. It became a warehouse and garage before being demolished in 1933. Today the site is parking for the Athenian Corner Restaurant.

This web page has a brief history of the Playhouse, and notes that for about four months in 1898-1899 it was also known as the Casino Theatre, then reverted to the name Savoy. The Savoy originally opened in the converted church on February 17, 1896, and the building was demolished in September, 1933, after having served as a warehouse and garage for a department store for 14 years.
