Originally opened in 1926 as a single screen movie house, the Uptown Theatre received an Art Moderne facelift in the 1940's, including its present marquee.

It currently operates as part of the Loews Cineplex chain, and has been divided into three auditoriums, two seating about 170, and the largest, just under 500.

The Uptown Cinemas screens first-run features, leaning towards art films. It is one of the oldest Loews Cineplex movie houses in the country.

I've read elsewhere that the theatre was not divided. The original remains and a neighboring restaurant has been converted into two additional screens.
