The Glendale Cinema 5 is being run as an indepent theatre by the Office building owner. I'am told that the theatre will be closed either at the end of September, or maybe late December. The theater which is part of the office buildings parking structure, will be torn down and rebuilt as more profititable office space.

The Glendale Cinema 5 is rather unspectacular. It has the same look as other GCC theaters built during the same period in the late 1980s and the early 1990s, notably the former GCC theater in West Hills (now operated by Laemmle) and the Hollywood Galaxy (now closed).
this theatre closed about six months ago. it has been gutted and is being converted into office space.
poor, typical early 90’s generic multiplex. I used to like going there on weeknights though cause it was always completely empty, a total ghost town. Of course most of the other Glendale theatres are like that now anyway.
Well the theatre was to have been a Cineplex Theatre in the design stages. The original design was to have been a 4 screen complex when Cineplex was to open it. GCC picked up the location and added the 5 th. screen. The biggest problem this theatre had was it was not on the main street but a side street. The parking was good.
AKA “GCC Glendale Central 5 Theatres”. Zip code is 91203.
It doesn’t seem to have had much success as medical offices, either. My husband went to a doctor there a couple years ago and was able to get right in, no appointment, no waiting. I went back yesterday to make an appointment for him this time, only to find the whole place empty except for one remaining office for an eye doctor, with no sign of where hubby’s doctor went. Still clean and like new, with the former theatre’s inside escalators working fine, but nearly deserted. Weird.
The Glendale Central Cinema opened on October 11th, 1991. Grand opening ad already posted.
