The single-screen Kar-Vu opened in 1964 with a capacity of 165 cars. It is open from May through September and uses traditional drive-in speakers for sound.

This "working" theatre is for sale! It's a package deal with the downtown theatre, The Capitol. A kind of two for one! The Capitol is in EXCELLENT shape. The current owners bought them after their long-time owners retired. I don't know the details; however, anyone interested should contact the Springfield Chamber of Commerce. It's a shame that these two are sitting silently now. I know they are being sorely missed.

The Kar-Vu has not found a new owner yet. The Capitol, Springfield's downtown theatre, re-opened in April 2005. There are no such plans for the Kar-Vu. I have pictures of the drive in to post asap. It's a shame the Kar-Vu is no longer working as it was a fun theatre.

The Kar Vu Screen has been demolished.

At the very least, the status should be closed. Car capacity in 1975 was 150.
