Kallet Drive-In

The Kallet Drive-In was located in Camillus, west of Syracuse NY. This drive-in opened on April 20, 1946 with Rita Hayworth in “Cover Girl”. It featured a waterfall on the rear of the screen facing the road. Built in three tiers, 3,000 gallons of water a minute flowed down the structure, illuminated by 28 colored footlights. There was an 18 foot high statue at the base of the waterfall. It had a capacity for 950 cars.

The Kallet Drive-In was operated by Kallet Theatres and was closed on October 9, 1960 with Anthony Perkins in “Psycho”.

One of the first—if not the first big new drive-in movie to open in the Syracuse area. I remember it had a cascading waterfall at the entrance. A classy place when it opened !
