Lamar Theatre, Lamar, CO - 2013

Although the Lamar Theatre was opened on November 15, 1946 with James Craig in “Boys Ranch”. It’s HIGH Art Deco in style. This is truly a beautiful theatre, and it is amazingly preserved. It has all that “rounded angle” quality you’d expect along with fantastic mural work. It was built for and operated by the Atlas Theatre Corp. headed by Charlie Yaeger.

The Lamar Theatre showed first run movies nightly. This hidden gem is nestled in downtown Lamar, CO, where its marquee lit up the night sky. For theatre fans, this one’s a delight! The Ross family operated the theatre for 29 years and they retired, and the theatre closed on October 26, 2023. It was taken over by new owners and reopened on November 10, 2023 renamed Main Street Theatre. Unfortunately, the interior of the theatre was gutted and it reopened as a performance theatre & country bar.

The Theater was sold in October of 2023 and is open again. It looks like they are going to be changing the name to “Main Street Cinema” soon.

The Theater reopened on July 19, 2024, after being gutted and having its historical murals painted over. It has since become a “Performance Theater” / Country bar. It’s a tragic end to a classic Charles Strong theater, which was in great shape before it was sold in October of 2023 to the new owners. https://www.lamarcinemas.com
