In 1911, the first movie theater in Williamson, West Virginia opened. The theater was called the Hippodrome. It was owned by Hyman Banks. In May of 1921 the Hippodrome closed because Mr. Banks built a new and larger theater in another part of town. The building that housed the Hippodrome still stands and is used today as a flower-gift shop called the Flower Peddlers.
