Opened in July 1998 by Muvico, this megaplex has 20 ‘regular’ screens and an IMAX-equipped auditorium. Located in the Pointe Orlando outdoor mall, the box office is on the ground level. A long escalator ride takes patrons to the theater’s entrance.
Once inside, visitors are in the middle of a large round lobby with plenty of hangout room, benches and video games. The auditoriums are in two sections with each having ten screens. All screens are large even in the small auditoriums with 95 seats. The largest non-IMAX screen has 298 seats. The IMAX screen located in the middle of the two sections is six stories tall and has about 450 seats.
This theater is now operated by Regal Cinemas.

Actually, the seating capacity is closer to 3800
Hi there Celluloid Freak,
Muvico Pointe 21 was designed by HOK Architects (specifically by a subdivision of HOK called “Studio E” – in their Orlando office during 1996-1997). I was the site project architect during it’s construction and worked on the design construction documents prior to that for about 2 years. The Architect of Record is Foard Meriwether (he signed and sealed the construction documents but did not work on the design itself). The actual “design” was the work of several designers that were part of the Studio E guild. Unfortunately, Studio E was dissolved in 1999 at which time I switch over to HOK Aviation.
I’m glad you enjoy your experience at Muvico. It was a tremendous undertaking both professionally as well as personally with me. I still have a full set of construction documents in Orlando (I currently live in San Francisco) and can get you specific counts of the theater capacities if you are interested – I don’t recall the number off hand 3800 sound close though.
Best Regards,
Rich Pickler

PS – In the architectural arena, the style would be considered more modern eclectic than Art Nouveau.
This theater used to show IMAX and 3-D IMAX. But lately I haven’t seen them advertised. Does anyone know if they still show IMAX films?
This is a photo of the Muvico Pointe Orlando 21.
Here is another photo of the Muvico Pointe Orlando 21.
The Imax screen was removed a few years ago.
I was visiting Orlando and emailed Muvico to find out what they were showing and got an email back saying it had been removed.
The Pointe 21 was purchased by Regal Entertainment Group. I think they’re refurbishing it as such.
They’re also painting it white as part of the uglifying of Pointe Orlando.
Well Regal added back in that Imax…
I remember a “Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland” theme at the theater that was very pleasant & soothing to the eyes. Muvico is known to have “themes” at their theaters & was wondering if the whole themeing was removed when Regal took it over! I recall seeing the 1st Charlie’s Angels movie at this theater & the “big thing” at the theater during my visit was Star Wars Episode I in IMAX, “50,000 watts of sound”, etc, etc…
I stayed at a hotel across the street from The Pointe last month & the shopping center is looking a little “dead”…lots of empty shops & not many people walking around…& this was a FRIDAY NIGHT, signs of the economy I’m sure. Wondering if the theater can stay afloat in that shopping center.
