All theaters were converted to digital the week of August 13. Saw The Bourne Legacy there this weekend, but the print looked 35mm. I know the theater was equiped for digital because before the previews the Regal Ent group opening with the train was in digital by Sony. It was very clear and VERY loud. This is stillmy favortite theater in Asheville.
Thanks mike.
Beaucathcer screens are great they are all really large. The ones at Caolina cinemas are ok except they are typical flat screens. They would work if they could have masking that came down, but the manager said the theaters are not wide enough and masking coming down would not solve the scope problem.
Another case of those Small screens!!
When I go on a Saturday it is usally fairly crowded. In late 2009 they installed digital projection in 2 of the theaters. The big issue with Biltmore Grande is the sound is so loud that it ruins the movie. I went there 3 times when it first opened and have never gone back. As part of atni turssyt laws Regal had to give up operation of Hollywood. It was taken over and remoled really nice by Caolina cinemas a NC chain. Theonly issue is only 1 of the 13 theaters are capable of showing filmsin scope. The other theaters have the picture off to the side of the screen when a film is in scope. I spoke to a manage a few motnhs ago and he said they were getting all digital projectors by June and this mioght correct the scope problem. Iavoid this theater too.
Hate to hear that; my cousin did all the maintance work there repairing everything from projectors to the ice machine.he also ran the Four Seasons Cinemas in Hendersonville on CT.
Regarding Beaucatcher, it may not be around much longer. It does not appear to be struggling, but it’s certainly not drawing the huge crowds it once did. Movie-goers are starting to expect more from a theater. The stadium seating at Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 is a huge draw, even though it is a little ways out from the main part of town.
I like Beaucatcher because it’s not usually crowded and the staff are very friendly. Some week-nights me and my family are only one of 3-4 groups in a theater.
“Hollywood 14” is no longer a Regal cinema and has not been for at least 2-3 years since the Regal Biltmore Grande Stadium 15 opened in Biltmore Park south of town. In Fact it is now called “The Carolina” and appears to be an independent restaurant/theater combo.
