The Coldwater Drive-In opened around 1950. This single screen drive-in had a capacity for 200 cars. The Coldwater Drive-In closed in 1966 with Kenneth Williams in “Carry on Screaming!”. The reason for closing was the opening in 1964 of the Capri Drive-In (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures)

The Coldwater Drive-In was open thru the summer of 1967. The blurry photos are vidcaps from an old home movie by the owner of the Capri Drive-In. They are the only known images of this drive-in. Address should be 237 N. Angola Road, Coldwater MI. The address above is for S. Angola and directs you to nothing pertaining to this DI. 237 N. Angola will put you at the business that is now on the property. Ramps are still faintly visible. A 1955 Historic Aerial shows a functioning Drive In.
I just uploaded seven photos of the Coldwater Drive-in and worksite, all of which were taken by my grandfather Albert S. (Al) Johnson in 1949. His Johnson Construction Company built several Michigan drive-ins between 1950 and 1953. Our family records don’t include the Coldwater Drive-in so it’s not clear whether this was a Johnson project. It’s certainly possible that this was Al Johnson’s first drive-in project. If not, then perhaps he took the photos as research before undertaking his drive-in projects.
The back of each photo is inscribed “49 Coldwater.” These photos were found (in June 2022) in Albert S. Johnson Jr’s papers by his son Albert s. Johson III.

This puts it right on the property (Google has been updating their map addresses lately).
A 1958 aerial shows the drive-in operational. By 1983, it had been demolished. Today, the property has been plowed and seemingly resurfaced with on trace hints of a few ramps remaining.
