Located in the south-east Melbourne suburb of Dandendong. The Lunar Drive-In opened on May 4, 1956 as the Dandenong Panoramic Drive-In. In 1984 this drive-in closed and the property was used as a flea market.
After being re-built this drive-in re-opened on September 19, 2002 as a twin screen drive-in. The re-opening films were “Austin Powers in Goldmember”, “Lilo and Stitch” and “Stuart Little 2”. One year later, on 3rd September 2003, a third screen was added. The Lunar Drive-In has a capacity for 950 cars.

This from BILL BARKLEY. The Lunar Drive-in is owned by David Kilderry.It has Three screens. It reopened in 2002 after being closed since April 1984.The booth has one CENTURY and two PHILIPS DP70 {35,70MM }Projectors each with a 5000 -watt Xenon lamp illumination.The three 35mm double feature programs are each held on a single plate of the Platter system. Bill added most folks don’t know this but it first opened in 1956 as the single screen PANORAMIC DRIVE-In and in 1963 it was called the VIllAGE Drive-in until it closed in 1984. Bill said" IT is the only remaining drive-in theatres in the Melbourne area.“ David Kilderry is always open to talk about old drive-ins in the area and of course his LUNAR Drive-In Theatre.
