The Merchant Walk theatre was among the last generation of General Cinema theatres to take root in Georgia soil. This theatre was among the circuit’s best in the area with comfortable seating, wide screens, 35 and 70mm projection and Dolby stereo each of the eight auditoriums. The theatre closed shortly after General Cinemas demise and sat vacant until the Georgia Theatre Company resurrected it, installing stadium seating and adding on four more auditoriums.

Here is a photo of the Merchants Walk Cinema from December 2005. Once a General Cinema Theatre, always a General Cinema Theatre.
Glad to see it’s still operational — i worked there in 1987, when an 8-screen theatre was still revolutionary.

The conversion of the Merchants Walk Cinemas into a stadium-style multiplex for Georgia Theatre Company II was designed by Alpharetta, Georgia, architectural firm Hiscutt & Associates.
