Century opened the sixteen-screen South Coast megaplex in January 2006 at the South Coast (now South Point) casino, the latest of the Coast neighborhood casino properties. This one is at 9777 Las Vegas Boulevard South – way way south. It is the first large casino most people will see driving in from SoCal on I-15. And a very striking golden building it is, even the windows are coated with gold foil. There’s also a 64-lane bowling center on site as well as a large equestrian exhibition center.

‘Las Vegas’ and ‘South Coast’ don’t sound like they go together. What body of water is this on the coast of?

Well apparently it is just a name

KVBC-TV in Las Vegas reported the following.

There’s a new “Coast” in town and now you can check it out for yourself. After years in development the $600 million South Coast Resort on the far end of the Strip opens Thursday(12/23/05) at 7:00pm.

It all begins with a fireworks show at the property at Las Vegas Boulevard and Silverado Ranch.
The South Coast Hotel and Casino is just one of the many properties owned and operated by Coast Casinos. Boyd Gaming owns Coast Casinos. The billion dollar merger took place in July of last year.

Under the Coast name, the company operates four casinos in addition to the South Coast. They are the Barbary Coast, Gold Coast, Sun Coast and the Orleans.

And the property has already changed it’s name to South Point. From what I understand, it’s a stand-alone now… owned by Michael Gaughn.

Recently saw The Muppets, Ben-Hur, and one other movie here. I guess it wasn’t too memorable.
