The XD auditorium here installed Auro 11.1 sound a couple years ago. Sadly it’s the least-used “immersive audio” format so not many movies actually take advantage of it.

Per Cinemark’s website, this theatre should be labeled as ‘Cinemark at Hampshire Mall and XD’.

While rivest266 may be technically true, there are (now) several Cinemark-owned cinemas in New England—especially with Cinemark’s purchase of the Rave Cinemas chain in 2012–2013.

This is the only Cinemark in New England.

The three new theatres are now open – 15 screens in all now. All 15 screens are now digital. The XD auditorium has a screen that completely covers the front from floor to ceiling and from left wall to right wall. The new addition (11,000 sq feet) is on the north end of the complex.

Cinemark plans to add three additional auditoriums to this theater by the fall of 2011; one will have one of the chain’s large-format XD screens: View link.

These should be titled Cinemark Theatres. Twelve screens, stadium seating. Big screens. My guess is size ranges from 150 to 300 seats. State of the art projection and sound. The main hallway has photographs of vintage movie palaces. The Cinemark’s auditoriums can’t match these old palaces, but some carefully chosen retro decorations and wall sconces add a nice touch. Certainly better than the Hampshire six theatres they replaced (although those did have a nice lobby) It’s great that the Amherst-Hadley-Northampton area finally has a complex that gives a lot of choices.
