The fall, 2008, newsletter of the Hartford Preservation Alliance says that the Lyric Theatre was designed by architect Edward T. Wiley.
September 1 marks the 87th anniversary of the Lyric’s grand opening. An article published in the September 3, 1923 edition of the Hartford Courant, a few days after the opening, noted that Mayor Richard Kinsella, a host of other politicians, and a seven-piece orchestra had been on hand for the event. There is now a fund to help the City of Hartford preserve The Lyric Theater. It is an important landmark and would be a treasure to bring back to it’s former glory.
To donate to the fund: Donations should be made out to “City of Hartford,” with the memo line reading “Lyric Theater Fund,” and sent to 550 Main Street, Hartford, CT. 06103.

Trying to expose the Lyric’s Story.
I work for the Hartford Public Library Park Branch in the Frog Hollow Neighborhood and am searching for any old photos or information on the history of the Lyric Theater. Does any one have any leads on historical facts about the Lyric?

Roger, I have agree with what you said. I’d do the same thing.
Here is an article from 2004 about turning the Lyric into artist housing and studio space.
An Austin organ Opus 1379 Size 3/7 was installed in the Lyric Theater in 1926 at a cost of $7,000.
Was this theater ever used as retail space?
Basile Baumann Prost & Associates, Inc. (BBP Associates) is an economics and real estate development advisory firm. This is a clip from their list of projects on their website:
“Hartford, CT— Conversion of the old Lyric Theater into office and retail uses."
Maybe they “advised” someone and it didn’t happen.
If I won a $300 million lottery THIS would be the theatre I chose to refurbish. The Lyric has been closed for about 30+ years and the decrepit roof has allowed water to pour in and ruin much of the interior. The Lyric on Park Street which is known as New England’s Hispanic Main Street. It could be successful as a Hispanic cultural and performing arts center with some Spanish movies also shown. However, it will cost many tens of millions of dollars to restore, and that is what is keeping it from happening.
The Lyric Theatre is located at 585 Park Street and it seated 1000 people.
