Opened on June 26, 1998. The following is a press release from Cinemark:

“Dallas, Texas, June 23, 1998 — Cinemark USA, Inc., announced today Tinseltown West Monroe, located at 220 Blanchard Street , will open to the public Friday morning June 26, 1998. Joe Blair III, Marketing and Promotions Coordinator, says "Tinseltown is a truly unique entertainment complex. We are bringing a great theatre to this market. The time is right for us to increase our presence here.”

The new complex will feature stadium-style seating in every auditorium, offering a sixteen-inch height difference between each row, allowing greater visibility and enhanced, unobstructed sight lines to the screen. Stadium seating is a relatively new phenomenon in movie theatres. Over the last two years, it has become the standard in new theatre construction. Cinemark has been on the leading edge of this trend and currently operates 42 locations with stadium seating worldwide, including Tinseltown in Baton Rouge. Cinemark will also be opening an all stadium seating theatre in Shreveport before the end of this year.

Tinseltown West Monroe boasts seventeen wall-to-wall screens, high-back lounger rocking chair seats with extra padding and cupholder armrests, as well as a forty-five inch clearance between rows for extra leg room, offering significantly more comfort for the patron.

In addition, the complex will house three separate concession areas featuring soft drinks, bottled water, popular candy, freshly popped popcorn, all-beef hot dogs, nachos and dill pickles. Three box offices with a total of six computerized ticketing stations will help shorten service time and will also allow for up to four day advance ticket sales. Jumpers Arcade will hold the newest video games to entertain patrons before and after shows.

Tinseltown will have the most up-to-date technology in the projection booth. Ultra Stereo Sound is featured in all auditoriums. Eleven auditoriums are equipped with Digital Theatre systems (DTS), Sony Dynamic Digital Sound (SDDS) and Dolby Digital sound systems . Digital sound gives the theatre patron the truest representation of sound possible, placing the sound in the auditorium to match the action on screen.

$6.00 for an evening adult admission and $4.00 for a child’s ticket makes Tinseltown affordable for the whole family. For all shows beginning before 6 p.m., the bargain matinee admission is only $4.00. Tinseltown offers a special discount for seniors over the age of 65 of $4.00 per person.

Tinseltown will open with the major movie releases on June 26th, including “Dr. Dolittle” and “Out of Sight”, and will be showing current hits such as Disney’s “Mulan” and “X-Files”. Please check the local newspaper directory or the Cinemark Website (www.cinemark.com) for all opening day shows and times.

As part of the grand opening celebration, the first 1000 ticket buyers on opening day, Friday, June 26th, will receive a free commemorative Tinseltown T-shirt.
