Park Theater

This theatre goes back to the silent theatre days in the 1920’s. Around 1930 it was renamed Bergan Theatre and was listed as (Closed). It had re-opened by 1933 and was operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management and was closed by 1941. It was located on the corner of Bergen Street and Mapes Avenue. By 1950 it had reopened as the Park Theatre, operated by Aldon Theater Corp. chain and it operated into the 1970’s.

there was a Park theater operating at that location at least into the early seventies. It was operated by Redstone/General Amusements and most likely closed due to the economic turndown in Newark following the infamous riots.

thanks for the tip.

The Park Theatre is indeed listed in the 1944, 1951 & 1956 Film Daily Yearbooks with a seating capacity of 900, 920 & 920 respectively.
It is NOT listed in the 1970 Film Daily Yearbook under Redstone; perhaps they closed it shortly after the riots.

This theater now houses a funeral home. See picture bottom center and compare to the old photo in my link above:
