Rialto Theatre photo postcard East Rochester NY.
The name was changed to the Capri in 1961. Rialto Theater plaque
Old poster for Children of Divorce, starring Clara Bow, at the Rialto in 1927.
That’s funny. My old girlfriend lived down the street from there in the 1990’s. I used to see older people out in front of there. I never guessed it was an old theater.
It’s East Rochester. I made a mistake when I entered the information. The location should be corrected accordingly.
From the information posted I would say East Rochester. Shouldn’t the person that added this theatre know the location.
A theater organ listing shows two Rialto theaters for this area. One Rialto theater was in East Rochester and the other Rialto theater is shown as being in Rochester, NY. The Rialto in East Rochester had its theater organ installed in 1921. The Rialto in Rochester, NY had its theater organ installed in 1917. Which theater is this one?
It’s interesting that the conversion picture is dated 1960, but the sign by the front door refers to an adult theater. I didn’t know there were any strictly adult theaters in 1960.
Listed in the Film Daily Yearbook;1950 edition as being located at South Main Street, East Rochester, NY, with a seating capacity given as 1,020. It must be in either the #300 or #400 blocks of South Main Street.
Here are some early photos as well as a view of the Rialto at the time of the conversion to the Capri in 1960:
