The State Theatre was opened March 2, 1926 with Wallace Beery in “Behind the Front”. It was operated by the Finkelstein & Ruben chain. It was equipped with a Wultizer organ. F&R were taken over by Publix in 1929 and they were merged with Paramount Pictures Inc. by 1933 through their subsidiary John Friedl.
On October 8, 2016 the Cinema Falls organisation held the first film event in the theatre in over 30 years, with all revenue donated to the theatre for the event. Silent movies were shown, with music by the Alloy Orchestra. It is hoped renovations will continue and the theatre will be re-opened either late-2017 or in 2018.
