State Theatre

Viewing: Photo | Street View

The State Theatre was opened March 1, 1926. By 1933 it was operated by Paramount pictures Inc. through their subsidiary John Friedl.

On October 8, 2016 the Cinema Falls organisation held the first film event in the theatre in over 30 years, with all revenue donated to the theatre for the event. Silent movies were shown, with music by the Alloy Orchestra. It is hoped renovations will contue and the theatre will be re-opened either late-2017 or in 2018.

The State Theater received a facade easement and is now nearly as beautiful as it was when first built in 1926. The Marquee, though not original to the theater has be revamped and is beautiful. Currently we are waiting to find out if the Sioux Falls State Theater group will be granted the opportunity by the owners to turn this gem back into a first-run movie house.
