Atlas Cinema in August 2009

The Atlas Sinemasi (cinema) is located in a building which was built around 1871. It is in an indoor arcade named Atlas Pasaji, although the cinema does have some street presence with posters above the entrance to the arcade.

It opened in 1948, and is located in the Taksim district of downtown Istanbul. It is a very popular cinema; playing a mix of Turkish and American made films.

Dating from 1948, it is one of the oldest surviving cinemas in Istanbul. (currently, the oldest is SinePop, on Yeşilçam Street across İstiklal Avenue, set up in 1943).
