Cinema Cafe Riverdale 12

The Riverdale Plaza 12 was a typical Regal theatre built in the 1990’s, this one opened March 14, 1997. It was closed on October 27, 2002. It was taken over by Coliseum Central and reopened on November 1, 2002. In May 2005 it became the Cinema Cafe Riverdale 12 after being taken over by Cinema Cafe. Lobby concession stands where removed and replaced with kitchens. The theme of the theatre is now the classic drive-in movie theatre with a 1950’s look. Lobby seating is 1950’s front end couches with drive in speakers pumping out music. As you walk into the main entrance, graphics show classic cars around a drive-in screen.

Down the lobby halls are classic movie star pictures and large wall graphics with screens from American drive-ins. The stadium theater seating was redone with counters to accommodate the food and beverage being served while watching the movie. Soft sculptures in theater also depict classic drive-in theaters and cars. The Cinema Cafe lease ended on October 30, 2023.

Regal opened March 14, 1997 but, in economic difficulty, closed after the October 27, 2002 showtimes. Coliseum Central took on both this location and the Gloucester location - this one under the name of YRC Riverdale Coliseum 12 - with showtimes on November 1, 2002.

The operators exited the Coliseum in 2005 though remaining in Gloucester. Cinema Cafe took over in 2005 as the Cinema Cafe - Riverdale 12. After renaiming it slightly as the Hampton Cinema Cafe at Riverdale 12, Cinema Cafe departed at the end of lease on October 30, 2023 leaving the group with five locations. The folks at EVO Entertainment’s Peninsula Town Center stepped up by honoring all Peninsula Cinema Cafe Movie Passes.
