Opened by AMC January 21, 1986, they operated the Oaks Mall Plaza 4 until September 4, 2000. Trademark Cinemas, who owned 46 screens in six theatres in four states then took over. The Gator Cinemas is now operated by Cinema Holdings. It was closed for renovations in January 2016.

They seem to be using their Facebook page for showtimes etc.

Yes, for those of you interested, they ARE open and hosting second-run movies. As scottneff notes above, the only place at this point to find out what is playing, other than to go by, is to use the facebook page he links to.

Movies are $2 and on Tuesdays $1. Popcorn and drinks start at about $3-4 each — so ca. $8 for soda and popcorn, but the sodas do have free refills.

It’s a good deal for those movies that are worth seeing on the big screen but not ones you wanted to pay like $10 bucks or more to see…

Nope. It’s gone, too. AMC abandoned Gainesville completely.

P.S., they do have the capacity to show 3D films, too.

According to an old issue of The Gainesville Sun, this theater’s last day as the AMC Oaks 4 was September 4th of 2000 with The Cell as its final movie. Also, there are still some AMC logos that can be found at this location, mainly on some of the theater seats and on the outside listings.

You can use fandango to see what is playing and but tickets.

Don’t know if anyone here already knew, but because of some badly needed repairs, this theater is currently shut down. They apparently have until late March to get things back in shape.

Should’ve posted this earlier, but the general manager of Gator Cinemas made a GoFundMe page to raise money for necessary repairs and whatnot, it can be found here…

Anyone have an update of the status of this Cinema? You get a recording when you call the phone number. It says simply that the theatre is closed for renovations.
