This is a legal document concerning the Penthouse Theater. This portion of the text mentions the theater:
“[p. 101] Appellees, Mildred Kannitz, known on the stage as "Dawn Delight” and Shanne Wimbel are “exotic” dancers. Appellees, Patrick Gagliano and Michael Bonadio are employees of the Penthouse Theater in downtown Pittsburgh, in which Ms. Delight and Ms. Wimbel perform. In March of last year, plainclothes police officers went to the Penthouse Theater, paid an admission fee, entered the theater, and viewed the performances of Ms. Delight and Ms. Wimbel. During the course of these performances Ms. Delight and Ms. Wimbel engaged in sexual acts with members of the audience. The police officers arrested the two performers, the patrons who participated in the sexual acts, as well as the theater’s cashier, Bonadio, and the theater’s manager, Gagliano. Ms. Delight and Ms. Wimbel were each charged by information with one count each of voluntary deviate sexual intercourse pursuant to 18 Pa.C.S.A. § 3124. Messrs. Bonadio and Gagliano were charged with one count each of criminal conspiracy".
I wonder if ebay or half.com would have copies of the Damron books…
Wild. I just searched for those very books on ebay.com to no avail.
Penthouse I & Penthouse II was a twin 16mm porn theater in the early ‘70s. I for straight, & II for gay male films. New owners from NYC added stages lighting and sound for strippers and the occassional live sex act. A third theater was added to the third floor, and that building became a live sex multi-plex with 25 cent movie booths to boot. With the Bizarre, Liberty, Art Cinema, the Edison hotel, and the one near the bus station, and several more across the rivers, Pittsburgh was a “pornocopia” of fleshly entertainment. Thank God it’s all gone!
I admit it, in the 1970s as a college student I paid visits to both these theatres. The things that went on, all I can say is WOW!
Liberty Ave in the 70s was porn alley! Anything you wanted. Theatres, adult arcades, where you had to be 18 and you paid a quarter to enter the adult arcade section through a turnstile. And maybe because I was young,it never seemed all that dangerous. Ah youth!
