CCC Auto Drive-In

The CCC Auto Drive-In was opened on July 17, 1948 with Rita Hayworth in “Down to Earth” & Leif Erickson in “Blond Savage”. It was run by the Rainbow Theaters chain in the 1970’s. In Juny 1973 a second screen was added. Apparently, it was demolished and a shopping center now occupies the site.

CCC stood for Cleveland-Columbus-Cincinnati, the “3-C Highway” which this drive-in was located on.

Attended this drive in a couple of times, remember always seeing bumper stickers and signs for Christian Free Drive In associated with CCC.

Is Christian Free Drive-in still operating? Someone should add it to CinemaTreasures.

Yes, the car capacity in 1956 was 400 and it was owned in the late 50’s by Frank Yassenoff.

Yassenoff owned several Drive ins in Columbus. WEST FIFTH AUTO, EAST SIDE DRIVE IN and Milton Yassenoff owned the SOUTH HI DRIVE IN in that city in 1956.

The last really great, first run exploitation drive-in show I attended was in the late 80s at this place. “Hellhole”, “Women’s Prison Massacre” and “Violence in a Women’s Prison”. Good friends, lots of beer and illegal smoke, and memories of a fun evening.

Of course, I’ve seen some drive-in retro shows in the years since, but this was the last time I saw this kind of show when it was simply the regular programming for the week. Soon after, home video would take over as the primary medium of exploitation films, and the CCC closed. Replaced by a shopping center anchored by a Kroger grocery store.

CCC became a twin theater in 1973. On July 23, 1973, Screen 1 opened with CHATO’S LAND and CHINESE CONNECTION, followed on Wednesday evening by SOUND OF MUSIC and LIVING FREE. Screen 2 continued its run of CHARLOTTE’S WEB and DARLING LILI. This was the first twin drive-in in the Columbus area.
