Originally built by Martin Theatres as a twin and opened at the end of May 1977. Taken over by Carmike in 1982, the small alley and Wishy-Washy (coin-op) laundromat beside it was bought and (perhaps lengthened) four more screens were added on May 16, 1986. It became a second run house around 2000. Down to only two evening shows, it closed on September 8, 2005.

The plaza is now completely gutted but the original twin front still remains. The box is removed but the front that is part of the building remains (complete with the intercomm things in the glass). Storefronts are going in on the front of the added four screens. It looked like they had curved screens. The two of those added theatres closest to the front parking lot had light brick red painted drop cielings. It looks insane. Who would pick that color? The rearward of the added theatres had standard black drop cielings.

That’s the place. I wanted to see the booth so bad on their last day, but I was working 3rd shift and couldn’t help it. Saw What Dreams May Come and a Jackie Chan movie (Mr. Nice Guy?) there [at least those two].

Canopies up over the store fronts and the “Plaza Theatre” signage removed from the facade. The letters are sunburnt into the facade anyway.

I remember taking my boys to see a few movies there, when they were little. I knew plenty of folks who worked there. Last first time running movies I seen were Gone in 60 seconds, and the fast and the Furious. Seen the ring there, when they started doing second runs. The night of the fast and the furious opened, a group of us car enthusiasts met up, and it was awesome. Muscle cars, euros, lowriders, all lined up. It was a great theatre, but I think Carmike was on a buying spree. Sad that this place, and the Martin got closed down.

This opened on the last Friday of May 1977 with two screens by Martin Theatres. It was taken over by Carmike in 1982, who expand it to six screens, which opened on May 16th, 1986. Closed in 2005 as Carmike’s last cinema in town. Grand opening ads in photo section.
