Often overlooked in its history is Edward Roydon Purves (1887 – 1980) the man who actually built the Ritz Theatre Randwick. Aaron Bolot (1900-1989) was his architect. Purves had a long career in managing other people’s theaters, and in 1936/7 he attempted to create a circuit of his own – the Ritz is all that survives. (Company Secretary was Arthur Macquarie Cowper - who probably provided the ‘Mac’ in Macroy.)
