Limberlost Drive-In

The Limberlost Drive-In was opened on August 19, 1949. It was operated by Clyde Niniser into the early-1960’s. Capacity at that time was 200 cars.

There’s a 1980 Historic Aerial now available on their site that shows the drive in intact.

Why the name Limberlost?

The Limberlost Swamp in the eastern part of the present-day U.S. state of Indiana was a large, nationally known wetlands region with streams that flowed into the Wabash River. It originally covered 13,000 acres of present-day Adams and Jay counties

The Sept. 3, 1949 issue of BoxOffice noted, “The 300-car Limberlost Drive-In was opened August 19 by Clyde Nihiser, owner.”
