A mixed-use, Miami-Dade County complex is just finishing up construction on the site of the Miami Drive-In. There’s a branch library, and other outposts of county government open for use. I saw films here in 1972, during my 12th school year, and a classmate worked there (which is the only reason I can recall the date). I think I saw a Godzilla film at this theatre.

This opened on February 18th, 1938. I uploaded the grand opening ad and an reprocessed USGS aerial from 1969 here.

My research has found that this was Florida’s first drive-in theatre.
It would be interesting to know how this location is used present day.

Thanks Al. E.M. Loew, Elias M.Loew 1898-1984 from Austria once owned 70 hardtop theatres and 17 drive-ins, motels, hotels, and a racetrack. One of the drive-in Motels was the 52 room Gulfstream Drive-in which has its own listing on C.T.the motel was built on both side of the drive-in screen.

The Miami Drive-In opened in 1938 and was advertised as the largest drive-in in the country. It closed in 1977.
