Catholic Institute Teatru

Deep inside the large Catholic Institute in Floriana, Malta lies the lovely Teatru which I am led to believe operated as the Crystal Palace Cinema during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Certainly the present operators box is exactly where a projection room would have been.

There is a single balcony with a curved front and wrought iron front, and fixed seating throughout stalls and circle.

The auditorium looks like it was constructed in the 1930’s, but I suspect the building is older than that and the theatre was a later addition.

From the outside there is nothing to suggest the existence of the theatre.
