Cineworld Cinema - Ipswich

Opened on the 1st May 1998 as the 11 screen Virgin Megaplex Ipswich. It featured 3 THX certified screens! Screen 11 was called the Premiere screen which cost originally £10 a ticket, for which you where given free popcorn and snacks and there was a bar in the entrance to the screen and you could take your drinks into the screen. The seats reclined and between each pair of seats was a table.

All screens have stadium seating and digital sound (Dolby Digital in all 11 and DTS in some). The largest screen seats 510 and the smallest screen seats 72 people.

The cinema was taken over by UGC who did not bother to keep the THX certification or high standards of projection set by Virgin.

The cinema is now run by Cineworld. The old premiere screen is now just screen 11 and has new seating installed. One of the smallest screens now has digital DLP projection and RealD 3D projection. It was refurbished in 2017 and a new screen was created in space formerly occupied by a Starbucks, which has been moved to the foyer.

Screen 6 (largest, 510 seats) now has a digital projector. Stunning pictures on a very large screen.

in facts the 3 biggest screens (6, 8 & 4) now have digital projection in 2D and 3D. Saw star trek in digital on largest screen looked amazing and sounded great.

The largest screen has now been converted to IMAX digital. All screens are now digital with Screen 8 (largest non-IMAX screen) able to show HFR content.

Now has one screen (screen 7) convert to 4DX. This is a real shame as screen was a good medium sized screen with good sound. The IMAX screen had new leather seats fitted.

Now a 12 screen cinema. Current seating capacity is as 1. 159 seats 2. 173 seats 3. 153 seats 4. 262 seats 5. 187 seats 6. 421 seats (IMAX) 7. 136 seats. (4DX) 8. 382 seats 9. 155 seats 10. 181 seats 11. 101 seats 12. 229 seats All screens are fully digital, with Dolby 5.1 sound. An upgrade to 7.1 and Atmos would be most welcomed.
