Cine Ideal

The Cine Ideal is located near the Avenida Corrientes in central Buenos Aires. Designed by architect Alberto Bourdon, it opened in 1940 with 1,200 seats. Remodeled in 1980 to the plans of architect Armando Lopez Leon, it was damaged by a fire on 23rd February 1983.

Now operating as a 5-screen adult cinema, it caters for a gay male audience over 18 years old.

In 1940 here was opening “Gone With The Wind”. It was a truly palace. Next door is Confiteria Ideal, a souvenir from Buenos Aires' Belle Epoque, from the same owners.

Saw 1986 Japanese film “The Adventures of Chatran” there on Monday, January 2, 1989.

Started screening 70mm cinerama on April 26, 1967 beginning with “Grand Prix” stars Françoise Hardy.
