The Regal had been open for ten months when this shot was taken in July 1938. The photographer has over-exposed the roof of the auditorium. The latter is set well back from Foregate, behind pre-existing properties, and the photo reveals W R Glen’s clever use of a slim, hockey-stick shaped plan for the foyer areas linking Foregate and the auditorium.
The much smaller, but equally modern, Tatler News Theatre is just beyond the Regal.
