Opened as a twin in around 1955, the Golden Glades East and West Drive-In’s mostly played the same two films on both sides, switching prints midway. It had a capacity for 1,284 cars.
One of the films was always a top first-run such as “Star Wars” and the theatre rarely showed the exploitation most other drive-ins thrived on.
By 1981 it was closed, most likely a victim of property values.

“Star Wars” had a six-week run here during June-July 1977.
Picture of Golden Glades Drive-In lot here.
If drive-ins weren’t bad enough, this one was located smack dab next to the Palmetto Expressway where the traffic runs east and west, the same direction that both screens were positioned. Since there were no trees to mask the headlights of passing cars it was sometimes difficult to see the bright scenes in a movie, let alone the dark ones. I still don’t know the hell Gregory Peck saw in the open coffin in The Omen.
This opened on February 10th, 1956. grand opening ad is at View link
Nice opening ad Mike R.
3383 NW 167th St, Miami Gardens, FL 33056
The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in. The street address in the current heading is correct, but the town and zip code throw off the mapping on Google Earth.
Here is a 1980 aerial photo of the drive-in, courtesy of HistoricAerials.com.
According to the grand opening ad posted by Mike Rivest, the drive-in was located on NW 167th St & 34th Ave, which is consistent with the Miami Gardens address, and not was not in North Miami Beach.
Miami Gardens did not exist when this theatre was in operation.
Al, I believe the intention is to help people understand where the drive-in once used to be, using the best possible current address information.
